Funding Tips & Insights

Getting funding in Ontario is competitive, but with the right strategy, preparation, and persistence, your chances of success rise dramatically.

1

Get Organized Early

Most grants require detailed documentation, including business registration, financial statements, project budgets, and timelines. Keep these documents in one folder to respond quickly when opportunities arise.

Tip: Funders love applicants who submit early. Don’t wait until the last week to start your application!

2

Align with the Grant’s Mission

Every funding program has specific goals, such as job creation, digital innovation, community impact, or sustainability. Tailor your proposal to demonstrate how your project aligns with these outcomes.

3

Write a Clear and Compelling Story

Funders need to understand why your business or organization is important. Clearly explain your purpose, the audience you serve, and the measurable impact your project will create.

Tip: Avoid jargon. Write like you’re talking to someone unfamiliar with your field.

4

Track Application Deadlines

Many Ontario grants have short or seasonal intake windows. Create a simple calendar (or subscribe to our updates) to stay on top of new opportunities.

Frequently asked questions

Who can apply for business grants in Ontario?

Most Ontario business grants are open to SMEs, nonprofits, startups, and social enterprises. Always review program details before applying.

Do I need to be a registered business to qualify for grants?
Yes. Government and private funding programs typically require a valid Business Number (BN) and proof of registration or incorporation. Nonprofits may need a charitable number or official registration.
What’s the difference between a grant and a loan?
A grant is non-repayable funding; a loan must be repaid (with interest). Grants often have strict project-specific requirements.
How often do grant programs open?
Some programs are ongoing, others open once or twice per year. We track active and upcoming intakes so you don’t miss deadlines.
Can I apply for more than one grant at the same time?
Yes, but confirm each program’s terms. Some grants can be combined if they cover different project costs.
How long does it take to receive funding?
Timelines vary. Small grants: 4–8 weeks, larger programs: several months. Ensure your application is complete for faster review.
Do you charge a fee for grant support services?

Free: Initial consultations and general guidance

Paid: Full proposal writing, detailed reviews, and personalized application management
